Libya’s Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, met on Tuesday with the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzri Al-Nuwairi, and other members of parliament, for talks on cooperation. A statement released by the Attorney-General’s office said that both sides discussed “issues of common interest” and “enhancing cooperation between the two authorities.”They also reportedly discussed “enhancing the effectiveness of the Attorney-General Office’s communication” with parliamentary committees specialized in “evaluating legislative actions”.

Tripoli, Jan 3 (IANS) The Libyan authorities have said that eight unidentified bodies were discovered in the city of Tarhuna, some 90 km south of the capital Tripoli. "The field teams from the Excavation Department recovered 8 unidentified bodies from a dump site in Tarhuna," said the General Authority for Research and Identification in a statement. The recovered bodies will be transferred to the forensic laboratory for identification and determination of the cause of death, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the statement. The session was devoted to discussing extradition of Abu-Agila Masud al-Mariami to the United States over alleged involvement in the 1988-Lockerbie bombing. The deputies concluded with four points; first, selecting a parliamentary committee consisting of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Legislative Committee, and the Justice Committee at the House of Representatives to follow up on the extradition case, according to the Spokesman. Secondly, addressing the judicial authority to assign a legal team to defend al-Mariami and follow up on the case. Speaking during a cabinet meeting, the Tripoli-based premier attacked the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and chairman of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri. Tripoli: The Libyan authorities have said that 18 unidentified bodies were discovered in the northern coastal city of Sirte. The 18 bodies were found in the Sabaa area of Sirte last week and transferred to a hospital in the city, the General Authority for Research and Identification of Missing Persons said in a statement on Sunday. Samples were collected from the bodies and taken to laboratories for analysis, the statement added. In October 2022, the Libyan authority announced the discovery of 42 unidentified bodies in mass graves inside a school yard in Sirte, Xinhua news agency reported. Libya has been suffering violence and insecurity since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
