An armed group affiliated with a security body operating under Khalifa Haftar's forces in the eastern region has opened fire on two residents in north Al-Bayda city, leaving one dead and the other injured. According to Libyan Crime Watch, the 21-year-old Muhammad Bouhaniyeh was shot dead by armed men riding vehicles with the logo of the General Department of Criminal Investigation of the Granada branch. The organization quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the armed men were roaming in official security vehicles in the Al-Hanniyeh area north of Al-Bayda late on Friday. Residents in the area stood up to the armed group after the latter tried to arrest some people without legal procedures and began firing randomly in the neighbourhood. LCW said it holds the General Department of Criminal Investigation accountable for the incident, as it called for an urgent and vigorous investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

CAIRO – 26 December 2022: Egypt has topped African countries regarding services exports in 2021 by around $20 billion, said a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in December. Egypt has achieved a huge growth in services exports by 45.5 percent year-on-year in 2021, said the report. Morocco followed Egypt in services exports then Ghana, South Africa, and Ethiopia. In maritime routes, Egypt was preceded by Morocco and followed by South Africa then Ghana then Togo. Earlier this month, Egypt has announced a plan to develop Egyptian commodity exports to African countries to reach $15 billion during the coming few years.

According to the reports and images on social media, pilot Amer al-Orfi al-Gajam was exchanged for 15 prisoners held by Haftar's forces, which back a rival government and control much of eastern and southern Libya. Images on social media appeared to show Gajam, a high-ranking member of Haftar's forces, with a long beard and dressed in a traditional Libyan tunic and vest. Haftar's forces later announced that they had lost a MiG-23 due to a "technical fault" and that the pilot had been captured. They made no immediate statement on the reported prisoner exchange.

Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 7th that it has signed a contract with the General Authority for Social Solidarity Fund under the Ministry of Social Affairs of the State of Libya to supply 3,000 Venue SUVs for disabled who were affected by the Libyan civil war. All vehicles will be equipped with a special device that enables people with disabilities to drive the car without external help. The device is designed to accommodate the drivers irrespective of the side they are incapacitated. “Through the ongoing partnership with the Libyan government, we will make efforts to ensure that anyone can enjoy freedom of movement regardless of disability,” said Hyong Jung Im, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Middle East & Africa Headquarters. In November 2021, Hyundai Motor signed agreement with General Authority for Social Solidarity Fund of Libya and supplied 2,300 specially equipped cars for the use of differently-abled people.

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court (AC) has issued a detailed verdict on the Toshakhana reference against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. As per details, the Toshakhana reference was returned to National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Whereas according to the petitioner the Toshakhana reference is worth Rs 120 million. Earlier, an accountability court (AC) returned the Toshakhana reference against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to National Accountability Bureau (NAB). It said that former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani gave undue favour to the president and Nawaz Sharif during his tenure also allowed him to handover the vehicles to Asif Zardari.

21 new people tested positive for COVID-19, marking 4 percent of the infection rate, according to a Monday report by the National Center for Disease Control in Libya (NCDC). The center also said 9 have recovered during the same reporting period. The total recorded COVID-19 cases in Libya have exceeded more than 507,000 since the start of the pandemic, while over 500,000 of which have recovered, according to the NCDC. The virus has claimed the lives of 6,437 people. Over two million people received one dose of the vaccination, while more than one million others were vaccinated with two doses.

Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation Ali Al-Ridha held talks with the French Ambassador to Libya, Mustafa Mihraje, with a focus on aspects of cooperation between both sides. The meeting, convened at the Labour Ministry’s HQ in Tripoli, discussed vocational rehabilitation for youth and people with disabilities and ways to create jobs in the private sector. Al-Zawiya city is seeing unrest following the killing of Salem Abdulmoala and his wife Sarah Grimida by opening fire on their car as their two kids were inside in Al-Harsha area in the west of the city. The children were taken to hospital after sustaining serious wounds from the gunshots. Local sources said the victims' families blocked the coastal road at Al-Harsha traffic lights and under the Oil Refinery bridge. The sources said the killing was done by outlaws who opened fire on the couple and fled. The kids are now in serious condition at the hospital.

The Ministry of Health has conducted a training program to qualify intensive care physicians in hospitals in the southern region. The Director of the Health Emergency Department, Muhammad Al-Ghaziwi, said the program targeted 25 doctors in the ambulance and emergency departments in the hospitals of Ghadames, Daraj, Traghen, Wadi Ataba, Germa, Ghat, and Bintbaya. According to Al-Ghaziwi, this round of training, which was not the first of its kind, was implemented in coordination with the World Health Organization. Head of the Libyan Amazigh Supreme Council, al-Hadi Barqiq, announced the start of forming a constitutional body for the fourth administrative region through direct election, after the political parties failed to find a consensual constitutional basis. In a statement published by the Council, Barqiq congratulated the Libyan nation on the 71st anniversary of Libya’s independence. “This anniversary was made by the ancestors to push for the stability of the country,” the statement said. The Council Head said: “This occasion, which was linked a year ago from now, to a long-awaited event for which the Libyans sacrificed, and who was demolished by political parties whose personal interests prevailed over the interest of the homeland.”Barqiq demanded the necessity of ending the political bodies that lack legitimacy and setting a clear road map in which all the sons of the Libyan nation would participate. A Tunisian rights group condemned Sunday a “repressive and inhumane” government decision to deport a group of migrants who had been evacuated from a defunct refugee camp, AFP reported. The Tunisian cabinet approved on Friday the expulsion “as soon as possible of a group of migrants residing illegally in Tunisia”, the government said in a statement. The group, aged 30 to 32, moved to the youth centre after being evacuated from the Choucha refugee camp in southern Tunisia, FTDES said in statement Sunday, expressing its “indignation at the repressive and inhumane decision by the government”. The UN refugee agency UNHCR opened the Choucha camp in early 2011 to shelter those fleeing conflict amid the fall of Libya’s former dictator Muammar Gaddafi. Several dozen migrants refused to leave Choucha, demanding their asylum requests be granted.
