A militia member loyal to rogue military commander Khalifa Haftar has been shot dead in an attack in central Benghazi. Residents in the Al-Birka area of Benghazi woke up to a new round of clashes in their neighbourhood on Tuesday after two militia factions -both loyal to Haftar- exchanged fire with various weaponry. The deceased, identified as Ahmed al-Aribi and nicknamed Hamadika, was known for his close ties with Mahmoud Al-Werfalli, a senior military figure who was allied with Haftar. Before his killing in March last year, Al-Werfalli was on the International Criminal Court and Interpol list for committing war crimes and carrying out summary executions. According to local sources, the clashes erupted in central Benghazi after a force of the Saiqa militia led by Saif Asnedel stormed the headquarters of the 20/20 group of the militia Tariq bin Ziyad.

The 31st Arab League (AL) Summit concluded here on Wednesday with the adoption of the Algiers Declaration which calls for joint action to tackle the regional and global challenges. The declaration warned of the risks brought by changing international situation posed to Arab national security and stability, stressing the importance of unifying efforts to preserve Arab common interests. Referring to the Libya issue, the Arab leaders vowed to make all efforts to end the crisis through an inter-Libyan process in accordance with United Nations resolutions and with respect to Libya’s unity, stability, and sovereignty. The Arab leaders further expressed support for the incumbent government in Yemen and commitment to extending the truce. The Arab leaders also agreed to work on establishing a zone free of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East as part of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Plateau United Football Club on Wednesday in Abuja beat visiting Al Akhdar S.C. of Libya 4-1 in the first leg match of their 20222023 CAF Confederation Cup final playoff round fixture. The Jos-based side will visit the Libyan side on Nov. 9 for the second leg match. In the same competition and earlier in the day in Port Harcourt, Rivers United whipped Al Nasr, also of Libya 5-0. The Egyptian president, Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, and the Algerian, Abdel-Majid Tebboune, agreed on the need to push for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya as soon as possible, in their meeting on the sidelines of the Arab summit held in Algeria.
