Auckland’s seemingly ever ongoing stadium debate is about to kick off again with the council putting out a Request for Expressions of Interest for what they call “Auckland Main Stadium”. There have been plenty of stadium proposals over the years and the Herald highlighted just some of the most recent ones. In May the Eden Park Trust released its “Eden Park 2.0″ uncosted plan to transform the stadium into a 60,000-capacity sport and entertainment precinct. The idea of a waterfront stadium has long been one of the prime suggestions if a new stadium were to be built. And they answer that with:A city centre stadium would provide many benefits to the city.

NZ Super Fund says a strong performance by global share markets during the first half of this year has underpinned an "excellent" full-year result for the fund, which returned 11.9% after costs and before NZ tax. The fund said that the global recovery in share prices over the year meant that the Super Fund’s total return slightly lagged that of its Reference Portfolio benchmark, which generated 12%. This year, global equities performed very well, and the Super Fund slightly underperformed the reference portfolio. Whineray said despite the Super Fund’s continued strong financial results, the global investing environment remained challenging. One of the leading jobs of a referee is to manage the time in a football match, yet officials at the Rugby World Cup aren't wearing watches because of a row with timepiece sponsor Tudor. However, the referees are not wearing Tudor watches this tournament - and are not allowed to wear other timepieces due to the sponsorship arrangement. The issue dates back to the 2019 Rugby World Cup, when officials were given Tudor watches. However, rugby officials are understood to be bemused by the standoff, because they have never been directly told they cannot sell the watches in the past. The referees were told they could wear Garmin watches instead of Tudor because they are not direct competitors.

[Source: Moana Pasifika/Twitter]New Zealand international Julian Savea will play for Moana Pasifika in Super Rugby next year after a “brutal” departure from the Wellington Hurricanes. The former All Blacks winger and equal record try-scorer in Super Rugby joins the Auckland-based team on a one-year deal after failing to agree terms with the Hurricanes. He matched former Australia fullback Israel Folau’s Super Rugby try-scoring record of 60 in May with a brace in a defeat by Fijian Drua. He joins a Moana Pasifika side that finished bottom of the 12-team competition in their second season under former coach Aaron Mauger. “With one of the most recognisable names in rugby, his injection into the Moana Pasifika community space will be inspirational to Pasifika rugby hopefuls in New Zealand and across the Pacific,” the team said in a statement.
