"This is the real deal Holi and not a for-profit ‘Holi-inspired’ event with commercial motives," they said.

When inviting Reti to speak at the University, Peters called him “Dr Shane Jones”. Earlier that morning, when holding a press conference with Samoan Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa, he also said it had been a pleasure with “my colleague the Honourable Shane Jones ... Shane Reti” before laughing and saying “after Waitangi I cannot get past this, I tell you”. Peters and Reti also discussed educational and development opportunities for Samoa’s health workforce with Samoa’s Health and Education Ministers. The Court of Appeal has agreed to hear the case of Gail Maney, who has spent more than 20 years pleading her innocence in the murder of Deane Fuller-Sandys. Maney was convicted of the 1989 murder of Fuller-Sandys in 1999, and during a retrial in 2000. Fuller-Sandys, a tyre fitter, was presumed to have drowned during a fishing trip near West Auckland's Whatipu Beach in 1989. Maney and her legal team, led by Julie-Anne Kincade KC, have been working on a third court appeal since 2018, following the release of the Gone Fishing podcast by Stuff journalists Adam Dudding and Amy Maas in 2018. On Friday, the Court of Appeal decided the appeal would be heard in August 2024, alongside an appeal from Stone, who remains in prison for the murders of Fuller-Sandys and Stephens.

A big blaze attended by fire crews east of Twizel in Canterbury this afternoon has now been extinguished. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) spokeswoman said they were called to a well-involved fire burning in crop stubble, east of the Canterbury town, at 12.30pm. Ten appliances and one helicopter were dispatched to the scene, working to contain the 2km by 2km blaze. When Fenz was first notified, the fire was 300m in length but rapidly grew to a 2km squared patch. The blaze was mostly contained and crews worked to fully contain it, the spokeswoman saidThe fire was extinguished at 3.32pm.
