IRD and police are investigating the allegations made by the ‘money mule’ and Cabinet Minister Casey Costello says agencies must work together to stop organised crime. But when he threatened to blow the whistle on the tax evasion scam, the ‘money mule’ claimed he was kidnapped, assaulted and told to keep quiet or he would be killed. “This will require bold initiatives as well as better public awareness of the reality of exploitation in New Zealand.”The ‘money mule’, Singh, now faces an uncertain future.

Police are looking to identify a man in the hope he can help enquires into an Arrowtown assault. The assault happened on December 21, at Arrowtown's Fork and Tap bar, police said. The man, who police released pictures of captured from CCTV footage, was believed to have been part of a wedding party that had been at the Arrowtown Bowls Club earlier in the day, police said. Anyone who recognised the man was asked to contact police on 105, quoting the file number 251224/4386. Information could also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

A Dunedin pizza delivery driver took an unexpected detour after her vehicle ran out of gas midway up a steep street and rolled away into a lamp post. A 21-year-old delivery driver had been driving up the hilly street when the vehicle suddenly lost power. It was "likely because it’s ran out of gas", Snr Sgt Bond said. The delivery driver was uninjured. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said three firetrucks, one tanker and a support vehicle responded to what was initially reported as a car crashed into a house.

A young Dunedin man began "yelling and screaming" and allegedly hurled abuse at police after his girlfriend was pulled over for drink driving. The driver, an 18-year-old woman, "tried to get into the backseat of the car so that she wouldn't be seen as the driver", Snr Sgt Bond said. As she was being processed for drink driving, her 18-year-old boyfriend interfered in the process. He began "yelling and screaming on the street" and, when warned, began allegedly began abusing police. She was summonsed to appear in the Dunedin District Court next Thursday charged with drink driving and careless driving, Snr Sgt Bond said.
