The Labour Party is promising up to $4000 per household to encourage the use of solar energy. Half of that would be to help pay for solar panels on rooftops and half would be available to pay for battery storage. “We need to increase renewable electricity generation by 68% by 2050," says Labour leader Chris Hipkins. It says there are just over 53,000 homes in New Zealand with solar panels on their roofs and the number is growing. But SEANZ says people are gradually realising that the return on the upfront cost of installing solar panels is worth it in the long run.

Additionally, air defence could be layered by deploying air defence missiles on the platforms forcing Ukrainian attackers to fly through layers of defences long before reaching targets in Crimea. Last week’s announcement put recent Ukrainian commando attacks on Russian air defence missiles in Crimea into a new perspective. Since then, Russian air defence radars and missile systems in Crimea have been subjected to a persistent campaign of attacks. NZ Communities Need Minor Ailments Scheme (MAS) To Relieve System PressureCommunities struggling to get access to health care need Te Whatu Ora to continue its Minor Ailments Scheme (MAS) to allow them to be treated for minor conditions in pharmacies across the motu, Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand (PSNZ) President Rhiannon Braund said today. Professor Braund says that while PSNZ acknowledged the scheme needs to be evaluated, ongoing system pressures means it also needs to continue while that occurs to ensure people receive the treatment they need. “Treating minor ailments at community pharmacies means people are seen earlier and those minor conditions don’t worsen and end up with people affected needing to go to emergency departments. “PSNZ has written to Te Whatu Ora asking for a continuation of the scheme while the evaluation is undertaken. This is particularly important for minor ailments like scabies that can affect a whole whānau.

For the past 18 months, the housing market has been firmly in the doldrums. This week, Kiwibank economists said it looked as though May was the trough for the housing market. Some migrants will rent rather than buy their homes, but that extra rental demand can also boost the property market. “The latest numbers show quite a big rise in the share of investor loans going out with a 35% to 40% deposit. “The lack of listings in combination with a rise in sales means the stock on the market is going down,” Davidson said.
