No fewer than 345 incidents of violence against Nigerian doctors were reported in 2022, The PUNCH reports. This is according to the report on “Workplace Violence against Doctors” obtained exclusively by The PUNCH from the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors. According to the report, 74 per cent of the attacks required medical attention, and 15 per cent were life-threatening. Workplace violence is any act or threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behaviour that occurs at the work site. The murder of Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye, a few hours after the new year, has made me pensive and downcast ever since. That dastardly murder is one event of 2023 that throws me into spasms whenever my mind reflects on it. As they escaped the scene, the killers dragged with them the Fatinoyes’ 23-year-old son, Oreoluwa, who they abducted. Very few murders of that cruel brew have made my heart this brittle, getting me inconsolable and distraught. The killing of the Fatinoyes has all the trappings of revenge, cult or drug peddlers’ assassination.

Organisers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have called for entries ahead of its 2023 edition. The early call for entries, according to founder and CEO of the AMAAs, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, is to enable more film practitioners across Africa and the diaspora to submit and participate in the 19th edition. Anyiam-Osigwe said, “this is an avenue to officially rest the 18th edition of the AMAAs under the supervision of the Africa Film Academy and begin the journey to 2023. The Guardian Nigeria reports that several journalists have been detained over a viral video which showed President Salva Kiir wetting himself. Over six people who are working with South Sudan's National Broadcaster have been arrested as the video went viral and President Salva was seen wetting himself during an official event, the Union of Journalists in South Sudan was responsible for releasing the statement on Friday. The video showed the 71 year old President standing during the National Anthem during an opening ceremony in December and the President appeared to have been urinating on himself while standing. The six journalists were arrested on Tuesday following the viral video. The journalists were arrested because it is believed that they had connection in the release of the video clip to the public.

The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Yakubu Sanda, narrowly escaped being kidnapped by gunmen who attacked his house in Jos on Friday . The failed kidnap attempt on the Speaker was coming barely six days after the police carried out a rescue operation of the state Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Alexander Plangnan, who was kidnapped by gunmen on New Year’s Day in the same locality . The Independent National Electoral Commission in Borno State has said that only 27,753 Permanent Voter Cards have been collected out of the 132,750 supplied to the state. “So far, only 27,753 cards were issued out of the 132,750 new PVCs received as at January 5, 2023,” Ibrahim said. He also explained that out of the 76,677 replacement/transfer cards received, only 19,209 were collected. “As for the 151,047 old PVCs, a total of 39,429 had been collected leaving a balance of 111,618,” Ibrahim said. “As from today (Friday), we have started distribution at ward levels and will last for 10 days,” Ibrahim said.
