The Photo Editor of Guardian Newspaper, Femi Adebesin-Kuti, is dead. The Photo Journalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN) announced his passage through a statement issued by its chairman, Kola Olasupo and secretary, Sly Okoruwa. “We the members of Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN) regret to announce the passing away of our former Vice – Chairman, Femi Adebesin- Kuti. “Until his death, Femi Kuti was the Photo editor of Guardian Newspaper”, the statement reads. The remains of Mr Adebesin-Kuti have been buried in Abeokuta according to Islamic rites.

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspect identified as Issa Naigheti who allegedly kidnapped his father, Bature Naigboho, in Igboho in Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State and got a ransom of N2.5 million before his release. The command said that the suspect was arrested by the anti-kidnapping team at the Kambi area on Ilorin-Jebba road in Moro local government area of Kwara state on Wednesday, January 4,2023. A statement by the command’s spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the anti-kidnapping team was on the trail of suspected kidnappers around Kambi area when they arrested Issa. Okesanmi said Issa confessed during interrogation that he conspired with two others to kidnap his father, Bature and collected a ransom of N2.5 million. The statement read, “Members of the command’s anti-kidnapping team arrested one Issa Naigheti “m” on 4/1/2023 around Kambi area of Ilorin while on the trail of suspected kidnappers.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday flagged off the second phase of food distribution from items donated by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) for 8,000 households of Internally Displaced Persons in four camps and host communities in Borno State. The NEMA Director General, Mr. Mustapha Habib Ahmed who flagged off the distribution in Maiduguri explained that at conclusion of the second phase of the distribution, about 16,000 IDPs households in Borno State would have benefitted from the food donation by KSrelief. According to him, the first phase of the food distribution took place in December 2022. Between 2018 and 2021, the Centre donated relief items (food baskets) to some Internally Displaced persons in Borno, Yobe and Zamfara States.”He further that “KSrelief has been very benevolent to the Country. Interventions have been beneficial as evident from the positive testimonies from the IDPs.”The food distribution is being carriedout directly to the IDPs in their places of abodes at the camps by NEMA Staff in collaboration with staff of Borno State SEMA.

A Canadian college, George Brown, has withheld the part-payment of the school fees paid by a Nigerian applicant, Miss Precious Ademokun, who got denied a study visa by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. When Ademokun contacted the college on September 19, with no decision on her visa by the IRCC, she missed the school’s refund deadline. Despite that, the Canadian college told Ademokun it could not refund any of the fees she paid to the school. She appealed, but the school denied her request for withdrawal and refund in a letter sent to her on December 15.
