On Monday, Netflix showcased its latest slate of international original programs, which are a key part of its strategy to attract and retain subscribers around the world. The Los Gatos, California-based streamer's strategy is to create local-language shows and movies that appeal to audiences in specific individual markets and regions. If those programs blow up in popularity, Netflix can use its platform to book them in other countries including the U.S., which is what happened with the first " Squid Game " season and the Spanish-language thriller "Money Heist." Audiences on Netflix have embraced international programming as viewers have become increasingly accustomed to reading subtitles at home. The prime example of the strategy working is "Squid Game," which captured 265.2 million views in its first 91 days on Netflix, according to company data.

When it comes to Trump's Cabinet picks, most of them so far are anything but ordinary. Those anything-but-routine picks upend another normal: the confirmation process. Traditionally, the Senate would hold hearings to vet nominations — and it may for uncontroversial picks, such as North Dakota Gov. And if so, how would that Christian nationalism affect Trump's recent announcement to use the military to aid mass deportations? As luck would have it, after the election I found myself giving a lecture to between 40 and 50 students at an American University media and public policy class. So many of them didn’t understand how so many in this country could knowingly vote for a man and a political party that want to take away their rights and control their bodies. AdvertisementAs I spent these few hours with them, it was clear that these students feel unseen by the political system. Every election cycle, everyone asks how to get young Americans to turn out more robustly, to engage and activate. After talking with these students, I think the answer is simple: Engage them like adults.

Instead, I hope to report some successes in this election and to wishcast some favorable indicators of areas where the American public has voted in favor of policies largely in line with left populism. Public education is the first among these issues to feature a decisive turn towards public institutions. Kentuckians’ support for public education was won by a landslide. All three states, two red and one blue, voted for public education. Pew Research shows the support of abortion in 2024 at 63%–a percentage that has shown an upward trajectory since 2009.

President Donald Trump's picks to lead the next administration are talking about abolishing entire agencies and firing tens of thousands of federal workers at a time. The idea seems far-fetched at first because federal agencies are established by federal law. Trump can make federal workers' lives so miserable that they quitAmong the ideas Trump is expected to try again this term is to make the lives of some federal workers uncomfortable or to relocate their jobs to remote locations. While lawsuits and complaints by federal workers could take years to resolve, the federal government could owe back pay to workers who can prove they were wrongfully terminated. Trump's protectionist policies, particularly potential tariffs on Chinese goods, have prompted concerns about hitting demand, market watchers say. The bullish rebound in energy prices and overall tightness in the palm oil supply also boosted prices, he added. Oil prices mounted a rally on Monday as concerns over the Russia-Ukraine intensified, but ran into stiff resistance from bearish investors.
