Kaitlin Strong's and her husband’s two German shepherds, Hank and Mary Jane, were killed on their property in Belmont, Ont., last February. That's where her German shepherds, Mary Jane and Hank, were shot and killed by a group of coyote hunters, who allegedly trespassed in their backyard. Just a few months after the dogs were shot, Strong remembers another incident where two people got out of a vehicle and began “scoping out” part of her property. Strong said she wants the MNR to enforce stricter and heavier penalties to people who disobey rules. People should be allowed to hunt, but we should also be allowed to have land that we can say we don’t want hunters on."

The special constables who patrol the Toronto Transit Commission are peace officers appointed by the Toronto Police Services Board but do not have firearms, only pepper spray and a baton. Kennedy said if special constables’ powers are expanded by the province, it wouldn’t be automatic — the appointing body would have to give them the permission to use them. He prefers recent solutions brought forward by city hall, like a pilot to add crisis workers to downtown subways.
