For the most part, the weather hasn't been, well, so frightful in much of Canada. But things changed drastically post-Christmas as people in large swaths of the country woke up on Boxing Day Friday to some treacherous weather: heavy snowfall, ice pellets, fog and pretty much everything else Mother Nature could throw in. Ice pellets mixed in with snow and freezing rain were also on the weather menu. Environment Canada urged allowing extra time for travel for those heading out, citing "challenging" travel and reduced visibility "at times." Snowfall was expected to continue into Friday evening, with accumulations of eight to 12 centimetres.

The Missed Tackle Problem I Can’t IgnoreIt’s pretty easy for anyone to see the Dallas Cowboys defense missed way too many tackles this season. Dallas recorded 966 total tackles with 97 missed, landing at 9.1% missed tackle rate, tied for the 7th-highest in the NFL. I blame execution, because that missed tackle rate has shown up for nearly every game this season. Why the Rest of the Defense Undid the InteriorHere’s the paradox that drives me insane: the defensive tackle room didn’t collapse. I need more physicality behind the defensive tackles.

The attack began Friday afternoon in the northern city of Beit Shean, where the Palestinian man crashed his vehicle into people, killing one man and injuring a teenage boy. Israel's military soon after began amassing troops near the Palestinian town of Qabatiya, where Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said that the suspect was from. It's common practice for Israel to launch raids in the West Bank towns that attackers come from or demolish homes belonging to the attackers' families. The Palestinian man went to hospital for checks after the attack, but was unhurt and is now at home. More than 1,000 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank between Oct. 7, 2023, and Oct. 17, 2025, mostly in operations by security forces and some by settler violence, according to the UN.

Christmas is often called the season of peace, but in 1883 a Boxing Day confrontation between Protestants and Catholics in Harbour Grace led to a riot, five deaths and a public outcry that reshaped politics in the colony. The Catholic fraternities typically held annual parades on St. Patrick’s Day, but scheduling a Protestant celebration was a bit more complicated. That was the height of the fishing season when most rural men couldn’t afford to take a day off work. St. Stephen’s Day (December 26) and New Year’s Day were popular choices for parade dates. The 7,000 residents of Harbour Grace in the late 1800s were roughly 60 percent Protestant and 40 percent Catholic.

I have my eye on three games that I think will be the best of the weekend, no matter the Cowboys’ situation, I am going to be locked into some of these games this weekend, and I think you should be too. Houston Texans Vs. Los Angeles Chargers (-2)Man, this game is between two of the hottest teams in football right now. If the Bears win this game, they win the NFC North, not something that many thought would happen when the year started. https://twitter.com/FirstTake/status/2004232299911540925?s=20I think the Bears will have their offense tested against the 49ers defense, and if they get off to a slow start against the 49ers defense it might be too much for them to overcome. It will be a great day of football this weekend.
