SEOUL, Oct 8 (Reuters) – North Korea’s food situation remains perilous according to analysts and a United Nations expert who raised doubts this week about its harvest, and there are signs that it is receiving large shipments of humanitarian aid from China. Health and nutrition supplies from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and medical supplies to support anti-pandemic work from the World Health Organisation were among the aid that had reached North Korea. “North Korea has been letting other goods into the country since May, including large volumes of what appears to be humanitarian assistance from China,” he said. O’Carroll said he thinks North Korea will still be able to stave off major food shortages through the aid and imports from China. “However, the quality, range and nutritional value of the food supplies on offer will be low,” he added.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly all Americans agree that the rampant spread of misinformation is a problem. Ninety-five percent of Americans identified misinformation as a problem when they’re trying to access important information. Yet only 2 in 10 Americans say they’re very concerned that they have personally spread misinformation. There’s more bipartisan agreement, however, about the role that social media companies, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, play in the spread of misinformation. The poll also revealed that Americans are willing to blame just about everybody but themselves for spreading misinformation, with 53% of them saying they’re not concerned that they’ve spread misinformation.

The Palestinians and human rights groups view the practice of holding bodies as a form of collective punishment that inflicts further suffering on bereaved families. The Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Center, a Palestinian rights group, says Israel is holding the bodies of at least 82 Palestinians since the policy was established in 2015. Hamas holds the remains of the two Israeli soldiers killed during the 2014 Gaza war in an undisclosed location. Security camera footage shows the car veering into a group of Israeli soldiers and sending one of them flying back. In 2011, it traded more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners for an Israeli soldier who had been captured by Palestinian militants five years earlier and was being held in Gaza.

TURIN, Italy: World champions France recovered from two goals down to beat Belgium 3-2 in a thrilling Nations League semi-final on Thursday (Oct 7) with a last-minute strike from Theo Hernandez securing a place in Sunday's showpiece match against Spain. In a crazy end to the game, Belgium thought they had won the pulsating contest minutes earlier but Romelu Lukaku's late effort was ruled out for offside by VAR. We sat back a little too much," said France coach Didier Deschamps. "They had a good period for 20 minutes but after that we were not in danger and had a lot of chances. "In the second half, we were a little too emotional - maybe we were thinking a little too much about the final, about qualifying.

In its most dramatic move, it said it will be lifting the hotel quarantine requirement for arrivals to England from 47 countries, including South Africa, Mexico and Thailand. Though the announcement only relates to England, the other nations of the U.K. — Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — have generally followed suit. The changes mean that anyone arriving from the 47 countries removed from the red list will be spared that requirement. British Airways announced it will resume services and increase frequencies to a number of winter destinations removed from the red list, such as Cape Town and Johannesburg, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. “Britain will benefit from this significant reduction in red list countries and now it’s time to turn our attention to eradicating testing for fully-vaccinated travelers to ensure we don’t lose our place on the global stage.”___Follow all of AP’s pandemic coverage at https://apnews.com/hub/coronavirus-pandemic.

JERUSALEM (AP) — A ruling by a local Israeli court in favor of a Jewish man who prayed quietly at a flashpoint Jerusalem holy site has angered Muslim authorities, who denounced it on Thursday as a violation of the fragile status quo governing the compound. The ruling by a magistrate court in Jerusalem concerned a Jewish man who had been barred from the site for 15 days after Israeli police caught him quietly praying there. Under a longstanding but informal arrangement known as the status quo, Jews are allowed to visit the site but not pray there. The Palestinians and neighboring Jordan, which serves as the custodian of the holy site, fear that Israel plans to eventually take over the compound or partition it — as it did with a similarly contested holy site in Hebron, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Friday prayers at the mosque are regularly attended by tens of thousands of Palestinians, and are sometimes followed by protests and clashes with Israeli police.
