Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Monday that relations with Qatar are progressing well and will not repeat the mistakes of the past while avoiding interference in internal affairs. Egypt and Qatar agreed to resume diplomatic relations in January. The agreements come after nearly four years of a row between Qatar and Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE over Qatar’s alleged terrorism sponsorship and its close relations with Iran. Egypt and the other three countries involved in the dispute agreed to restore ties with Qatar immediately after the summit. Despite the agreement, Egypt likely remains wary of Qatar due to its connections with the Muslim Brotherhood and the harsh coverage Cairo receives from Qatari media, specifically state-run Al Jazeera.

GAZA, Oct 5 (Reuters) – Palestinian artist Khaled Hussein’s sculptures of human limbs are on display in a Gaza exhibition he calls “I Miss You Very Much”, inspired by the loss felt by amputees, including victims of the conflict with Israel. It has become a phenomenon, so I wanted to work on this issue and reflect it artistically,” Hussein, 46, told Reuters. Seven of Hussein’s sculptures of limbs went on display this month in a Gaza art gallery. A leg depicted beside a mirror is a reference to a therapy technique that uses vision to treat pain amputees can feel in their missing limbs. But the work explores the loss of a limb regardless of the cause.

Taiwan says it is an independent country and will defend its freedoms and democracy, blaming China for the tensions. Japan and Australia on Tuesday urged the two to talk, while the United States said it has been “conveying clear messages” after what it described as destabilizing activities by China. Taiwan calls China’s repeated nearby military activities “grey zone” warfare, designed to both wear out Taiwan’s forces by making them repeatedly scramble, and also to test Taiwan’s responses. Taiwan does not seek military confrontation, Tsai said, “but if its democracy and way of life are threatened, Taiwan will do whatever it takes to defend itself.”JAPAN, AUSTRALIA CONCERNThe United States, Taiwan’s main military supplier, has its “rock-solid” commitment to Taiwan. Two early calls about the spill came into the National Response Center, which is staffed by the Coast Guard and notifies other agencies of disasters for quick response. Shaye said the Coast Guard was not notified of the disaster until Saturday morning, though records show its hazardous spill response hotline received the first report of a possible oil slick Friday evening. The report by the National Response Center said the image of a “possible oil anomaly” was probably associated with the first report. Other potential criminal investigations were being pursued by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Coast Guard and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, officials said. That welding process has been linked to past oil pipeline failures because corrosion can occur along seams, according to government safety advisories and Caram.

(Reuters) - The current levels of match congestion, extensive travel and reduced off season time in elite men's soccer are detrimental to players' health and careers, global players' union FIFPRO said in a report on Tuesday. National team regulars at the top clubs have the toughest workload, the report said, adding that some players spent 70% to 80% of their playing time in a two-game-a-week rhythm. FIFPRO recommended that soccer governing bodies enforce a four-week break between seasons and a two-week mid-season break to safeguard players' mental and physical well-being. The union also suggested a mandatory break for individual players after a specified number of successive games. FIFPRO last month called for reforms to the international calendar to address the need for a reduced workload for players after soccer's world governing body FIFA announced a feasibility study into making the World Cup a biennial event.
