CAIRO - 31 July 2020: Libya's navy said on Friday that it has rescued 121 African migrants who were heading to Europe across the Mediterranean Sea. The spokesman for the Libyan Navy said the migrants were picked up in waters by the Libyan coastal guards. This comes within the state’s humanitarian and sovereignty efforts to protect the Libyan shores and provide rescue services. The UNHCR said in January alone, it registered 1,040 refugees and migrants the coast guard stopped and brought back to Libyan shores, a dramatic increase from the 469 rescued that month the year before. The UN refugee agency stated in February that the total number of migrants intercepted by the Libyan coast guard in January rose 121 percent from the same period last year.

CAIRO - 31 July 2020: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati announced that a high-profile Egyptian technical delegation would start a five-day visit to Iraq on Saturday to accelerate the activation of an MoU signed between the two countries in October 2020. During their visit, the Egyptian technical delegation would probe with officials from the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources how to prepare a joint plan of action to advance cooperation on modern irrigation techniques, wastewater reuse and treatment methods, as well as eradicating desertification and aquatic weeds, Abdel Aati added. The Egyptian delegation's visit to Baghdad comes in light the outcome of the first meeting of the joint Egyptian-Iraqi technical advisory committee on water resources and irrigation that explored opportunities for cooperation in the areas of water management, the irrigation minister noted. Abdel Aati stressed the need to foster joint cooperation and coordination between the two countries to achieve sustainable development goals and ensure the optimum management of the limited water resources.

CAIRO – 31 July 2021: Egypt's Permanent Representative for the United Nations Mohamed Edris marked on Friday the United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons marked on 30 July. The event gathered countries’ representatives, UN authorities concerned with human trafficking and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) concerned with providing assistance to the trafficking victims. The Egyptian Cabinet on Friday also displayed Egypt’s efforts to combat human trafficking over the past half decade on the occasion of the United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons marked on 30 July. Egypt also launched a national campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of human trafficking in May 2019, under the slogan “Together against Human Trafficking”. In November last year, Egypt established the first shelter to receive women and children victimized in human trafficking crimes.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population on Friday reported 45 new coronavirus cases, four deaths, and 545 recoveries total. A total of 284,215 cases have been reported in Egypt, alongside 16,518 deaths and 229,712 recovered cases. The committee, headed by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, agreed that restaurants, cafes, shops, and malls may return to summer working hours starting June. The Saudi Ministry of Tourism’s decision to allow entry of travelers holding tourist visas does not apply to Egyptians, according to a member of the Egyptian Travel Agents Association’s General Assembly Adel Shaaban. Those allowed to enter Saudi Arabia on a tourist visa are citizens of countries that have not been banned by the kingdom. The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation sent a circular to all airlines operating in the kingdom’s airports, including private aviation, to allow travelers holding tourist visas to enter Saudi Arabia, provided that the traveler has received vaccination doses approved by the Saudi Ministry of Health and has their data registered with the Saudi “Arrival Registration” platform. The Saudi Ministry of Tourism announced Thursday evening that the kingdom will open its doors to tourists and lift the suspension of entry for tourist visa holders starting August 1. The ministry clarified that the fully vaccinated tourists are those who received two vaccination doses from one of the approved vaccines in Saudi Arabia, including “Pfizer”, “AstraZeneca”, “Moderna” and “Johnson & Johnson”.

Egypt will receive 148.2 million doses of coronavirus vaccine as of August till the year end, Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Thursday. New quantities of China's Sinovac COVID-19 raw materials are to arrive in the country in August to manufacture 70.2 million jabs, she said. The new arrivals will also include 20 million doses of Sputnik vaccine, 20 million doses of Johnson &Johnson vaccine, 35.6 million of AstraZeneca and 2.4 million of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, she added. She noted that infection and death rates are remarkably declining in the country.

CAIRO – 30 July 2021: Egypt’s Prosecutor General Hamada el Sawi and his Libyan counterpart Al-Sadiq al-Sour signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation between the two countries’ prosecutions. The MoU is concerned with strengthening cooperation to combat all forms of crimes, especially terrorism, transnational organized crimes, corruption, human trafficking and cybercrimes. The deal was signed during a meeting between the two top prosecutors in Cairo on Wednesday during a high-profile delegation visitation to Egypt’s Prosecutor General Hamada el SawiThe two sides also reviewed the structuring of the two prosecutions, management of their offices and visions to develop them. CAIRO – 30 July 2021: Twenty-two people, including children, were injured when a school bus belonging to the Evangelical School in Cairo overturned on the Cairo-Mansoura Road, Dakahlia Governorate, on Friday. A number of rescue and firefighting forces, besides ambulances, moved to the scene of the accident, according to a statement issued by the governorate. The statement added that 17 people of the injured have been discharged. Meanwhile, 5 patients, including two children, are still receiving treatment and two others are in intensive care. It went on to say that this progress is powered by the state’s steps to develop road and bridge sectors, and adopt road safety measures to reduce the number of injuries and deaths.
