The sessions discussed topics of best practices for attracting more venture capital firms to Egypt, advancing regulatory reforms to create a prosperous ecosystem, and availing a roadmap for entrepreneurs and tech-enabled Startups. “International VCs represent 32% of all investors supporting Egyptian startups in 2020, compared to 21% in UAE and 18% in KSA”, he added.

The Cairo Tower will be lit up blue on Friday, July 30 to honor the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, which was announced by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The tower will shine blue and bear the slogan of Egypt’s national campaign to combat human trafficking, to show Egypt’s commitment to fighting trafficking and standing by its victims. According to international reports, Egypt has made notable efforts towards combating human trafficking – despite existing challenges – by opening a new specialized shelter for women and child victims of trafficking, increasing prosecutions, expanding efforts to train officials, and raising public awareness. The statement praised Egypt’s efforts and the launch of a hotline for human trafficking by the National Council for Human Rights. Other rights institutions in Egypt such as the National Council for Women, the National Council for Motherhood and Childhood (NCCM), and the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) also hotlines for trafficking.

CAIRO, 28 July 2021: Omar Assar bid farewell to the Tokyo Olympics competitions from the quarter-finals after losing to China's Ma Long by four sets to one. Ma Long is the 2016 Olympic gold medalist and three-time world champion. The first half of the match ended with a score of 11-7 in favor of Ma Long, who won the second half with a score of 11-9. Omar Assar managed to reduce the difference after winning the fourth set with a score of 13-11, before Ma Long decided the match in his favor by winning the fifth set with a score of 11-6. Omar Assar is the first Egyptian in the history of the Olympics to reach the quarter-finals in table tennis.

CAIRO – 28 July 2021: The Court of Cassation upheld prison sentences against prominent Muslim Brotherhood leaders over spying with the Palestinian Hamas group. Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie and other leaders including Khairat El-Shater, Saad El-Husseiny, and Mohamed El-Beltagy had their life prison sentence upheld. The court also rejected the appeal of other defendants in the case who received imprisonment sentences ranging from seven years. The court also ordered terminating the case against Essam El-Erian for his death. A criminal court handed prison sentences to the defendants in the case in September 2019.

CAIRO – 28 July 2021: The Egyptian Meteorological Authority expected the country to witness a rise in temperature degrees in most areas, where a very hot and humid weather to prevail over Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt. The weather is expected to be humid in northern coasts, and very hot on southern Sinai. The temperature is expected to increase between two and four degrees Celsius. As for the weather at night, moderate and humid weather prevails over Greater Cairo and the rest of the regions. CAIRO – 27 July 2021: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held on Tuesday a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli to follow up progress in implementing the unified network for emergency response and public safety services. The meeting was attended by Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi, Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfiq and Communications Minister Amr Talaat, as well as other concerned officials, said Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady. Meanwhile, President Sisi was posted on the latest developments on the coronavirus situation, where the health minister explained that some 80 million doses of coronavirus vaccine would be locally manufactured by the end of 2021, bringing the total number of locally-manufactured and imported shots to nearly 146 million. During the meeting, Tawfiq reviewed efforts to develop labor regulations and the organizational structure of public business sector companies, in accordance with Law No. 185 of 2020 on the development of work at affiliated companies.

(Reuters) – Vladimir Petkovic has left his job as Switzerland coach to take over at Girondins de Bordeaux, the French Ligue 1 club and Swiss FA said on Tuesday. The 57-year-old Petkovic, who helped guide Switzerland to the quarter-final of the European Championship this month, has signed a three-year contract with the French club. “We are so proud to be able to recruit Vladimir,” club president Gerard Lopez said in a statement. “He has the perfect profile to join a long-term project with the club. “We are sad that Vladimir Petkovic is leaving us, but we are very grateful to Vlado for the extremely good and successful seven years he has given us as a national coach,” Swiss FA president Dominique Blanc said in a statement.
