The Indian stock markets slumped to their weakest weekly performance in 14 months, after conflict erupted in the Middle East between the US, Israel and Iran on 28 February. On Friday, the Nifty 50 fell 1.27% to close at 24,450.45, while the Sensex declined 1.37% to end at 78,918.88, extending their decline following the prior session’s relief rally. Rising crude oil prices and continued selling by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) weighed on sentiment. Currency weakness added further pressure, with the rupee hitting a record low of 92.1488 against the US dollar on 4 March (Wednesday). Market volatility also spiked during the week, with the India VIX (Volatility Index)—a measure of the market's expectation of volatility in the Indian stock market over the next 30 days—rising from 13.70 to 19.88, signalling heightened investor nervousness and expectations of larger market swings ahead.

The paper soon became one of the most widely read Persian newspapers globally. From this unlikely base, Habl-ul-Matin began writing boldly about corruption, poor governance and the need for constitutional rule. Between 1905 and 1911, Iran experienced the ‘Persian Constitutional Revolution’. During those turbulent years, the Calcutta-printed Habl-ul-Matin became one of the most influential newspapers supporting the constitutional cause. The city already had experience publishing Persian newspapers.

The Central Village Defence Force (CVDF) on Friday (March 6, 2026) took out a road march in Manipur’s Churachandpur town protesting the death of BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte and other Zo community people who were the victims of the ethnic violence in the State. Valte, who had sustained injuries in a mob attack during the early period of ethnic violence in 2023, died on February 20 in a private hospital in Gurugram. Hundreds of CVDF volunteers and members of the public took part in the march to demand justice for those killed in the violence and who were displaced, a CVDF leader claimed. Iran’s deputy foreign minister Saeed Khatibzadeh on Friday said “Americans are exercising the practice of Nazi Germany when they attacked a ceremonial, unarmed and unloaded vessel”, referring to the torpedoing of IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday that killed nearly 100 sailors. The remark comes a day after Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi described the torpedoing of the frigate as a “war crime”. If we are going to close it, we will announce it,” the Iranian minister said during an interactive session. What is important is that everybody is supporting the international law, and we hope that we are not cherry-picking international law. Unfortunately, principles of international law have been attacked, and we have to stand together against these atrocities.

Many women, especially women farmers, cannot fully claim, control, or benefit from them. First, the visibility of women farmers in law, data, and policy. Second, women’s rights to land and to productive resources such as water and credit must be strengthened. Fourth, women farmers must have access to technologies and extension services to strengthen their agency and decision-making. When equipped with knowledge and appropriate technologies, women can make informed choices about crop selection, sustainable farming practices, and resource management, enhancing productivity, resilience, and household nutrition outcomes.

“LPG is largely a mixture of propane and butane. These gases are found along with natural gas, but are also produced in the crude oil refining process. Some 60% of India’s LPG is imported, much of it from Persian Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Liquefied natural gas (LNG), by contrast, is natural gas — primarily methane — that is liquefied by cooling it to below –160°C and transported by specialised ships. Any disruption to LNG production or exports from Qatar therefore has significant implications for global gas markets.

Evidence, even if collected illegally, is admissible and cannot be discarded as long as it’s “not tainted by an inadmissible confession of guilt”, the Supreme Court has ruled. Garg’s counsel contended that the committee chairperson had unilaterally directed the search and seizure of the radiologist’s premises without the consent of the othermembers. Writing the judgment, Justice Bhuyan said that discrimination against the girl child and, by extension, women in several parts of the country often took the ugly form of female foeticide. Referring to earlier Supreme Court decisions from the 1970s, the bench held that “as long as evidence is not tainted by an inadmissible confession of guilt, evidence — even if it is illegally obtained — is admissible”. The bench headed by Justice Misra also referred to the Supreme Court judgment in R.M.

The United States is well on its way toward controlling Iranian airspace, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Friday, adding that Washington expects the achievable U.S. objectives to be completed in four to six weeks. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Leavitt also said Washington was looking at potential candidates to lead Iran, a day after President Donald Trump told Reuters in an interview that the United States must be involved in choosing the next leader of Iran. "I know there's a number of people that our intelligence agencies and the United States government are looking at, but I won't get any further on that," Leavitt said. ADVERTISEMENTIn the interview on Thursday, Trump said that he thinks the next leader of Iran is unlikely to be the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's son, who has emerged as a frontrunner to succeed his father, who was killed in a military strike at the start of the war. Earlier on Friday, Trump said there would be no deal struck with Iran except "unconditional surrender."
