Finn, speaking to TNT Sports, branded it 'completely brainless', while Langer, who has worked with the England gloveman at London Spirit, was left stunned. With six overs left until the new ball, Steve Smith had looked to his part-time spinner Labuschagne to speed things up. In Australia, Smith’s average has slumped to 20.5, with the Surrey batsman having scored just one half-century during the Ashes series. ‘As a batter, your job is not to survive, it's to score runs.

Keir Starmer, the British prime minister, has made the welcome announcement that he would seek closer alignment with the EU Single Market across sectors of the economy “where it made sense” during an interview with the BBC on Sunday. Over the past few months, Starmer has been much more willing to blame the UK’s economic woes on Brexit, so this policy change is a logical next step in that political calculation. It is a deft move by the prime minister, even if what it means in practice still remains to be fully spelt out. A national protest against a controversial free trade deal between the EU and South America’s Mercosur bloc will be staged in Athlone this Saturday, January 11th. It will cross the River Shannon and end in a rally at the indoor sports arena at the Technological University of The Shannon (formerly AIT -Athlone Regional Technical College) on the old Dublin Road. A UN Commission of Inquiry report found that said Israel had committed genocide during the war in Gaza and the motion highlighted two breaches of Uefa laws that Israel dispute. That a ceasefire was brokered left it up to individual associations to engineer any desired form of protest when drawn to face Israel teams at any level. FAI President Paul Cooke on Monday updated delegates on the UEFA response in December, which only reconfirmed that matches under their auspices are no longer staged on Israel soil. “Uefa also reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, integrity and equal treatment across all member associations.
