Chris LisinskiState House News ServiceBOSTON - Closing a sizable stretch of the MBTA for weeks at a time was once a novel idea to accelerate repairs. Poftak told reporters that the agency will continue to deploy the strategy, which MBTA officials have increasingly embraced during the pandemic, though he did not indicate which areas will be affected or when. MBTA officials began rolling out longer stretches of service disruptions to accelerate repairs in the fall of 2019, starting with weekend shutdowns of core parts of the subway and trolley system. The latest E Branch work -- the second successive August shutdown for that branch -- halted trolleys between the Heath Street and Brigham Circle stations from Monday, Aug. 2 through Saturday, Aug. 28. "It'll be a more reliable ride, a smoother ride and quite possibly a faster ride as well."

Chris BergeronCorrespondentBOSTON - Like the afterglow from an exploding star eons ago, six monumental paintings by the artist known as Titian smolder with the primordial energy of ancient myths in a stunning exhibit at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Featuring just eight paintings in a single gallery, “Titian: Women, Myth & Power” offers a can't-miss chance to view a genius' end-of-life masterpieces and consider the profound questions they raise today about their subjects. Born Tiziano Vecellio in 1488, but known in English as Titian, he came to be considered the most important painter of the 16th-century Venetian school. After first appearing at the National Gallery in London, the exhibit moved to the Prado in Madrid and is now making its final and only American stop at the Gardner where it runs through Jan. 2, 2022. The museum has also commissioned two contemporary exhibits to respond to expected public reactions to the subjects of Titian's paintings.

Other World Trade Center steel became part of the official 9/11 memorial at Ground Zero, and 7.5 tons went to build the bow of the Navy ship USS New York. 'We're very proud to have it'Across New England, there are more than 130 locations with World Trade Center steel, per numbers from the Port Authority and tracking done by the USA TODAY Network.

On that darkest of nights, I was the assistant managing editor at The Star-Ledger working on the edition about the darkest of days. We all remember 9/11 in our own way.
