Buchanan – The committee under the banner “Help Save the Liberian Government Hospital” on Friday, December 13, presented $2.5Million Liberian Dollars to the Liberia Government Hospital in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. “We as a committee made the first presentation to the hospital on October 16, 2019 which has been keeping the hospital up,” he said. “We want to inform the public that we have $2,765,800.00 Liberian Dollars and $ 2,050 United States Dollars as outstanding pledges”. Dr. Anthony Tucker, the County Health Officer, mentioned that the people of Grand Bassa County have proven that health care is important to them. The Liberian Government Hospital, which is the main public referral hospital in the county, struggled for several months due to the lack of funds.

Margibi County – The management of the Robert International Airport (RIA) has dismissed one of its employees for allegedly photographing the arrival of boxes believed to be filled with banknotes that were brought into the country through the airport. Juana Aruna was dismissed on Monday, December 16, 2019. Prior to her dismissal, she worked as a Screener at the RIA for almost 10 years. According to the dismissal letter, Ms. Aruna was abandoning her duty and gave out misinformation [about the RIA]. Suma also refuted the allegation by the management of RIA that her sister abandoned work and gave out misinformation to the public.

The LTA declares, threatens to redelegate frequenciesThe Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has announced the expiration of all FM radio licenses pending the review of individual frequency assignments. The sweeping action is part of the mandate enforced through the new FM Regulations and the deadline for compliance is December 31st 2019. “All station owners are urged to come in to the LTA to secure their frequency assignment or risk the redelegation to new radio station applicants in January,” a release from the LTA said. While the PUL is aware of the ongoing review process, the official noted, any act other than this is contrary to the true intent of the review process. The LTA’s announcement came as a complete shock to radio station operators.

Arcelor Mittal began shipping ore in 2011, under a Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) that authorizeS it (Mittal) to use all facilities left by LAMCO, including the estates in both Yekepa and Buchanan. The railroad and the Port of Buchanan were left to be rented by Arcelor Mittal. Besides the 4% royalty that goes to the Government of Liberia, Arcelor Mittal is under obligation to provide US$3 million annually for social development to Nimba, Bong and Grand Bassa Counties within the 25-year operational period.

The management of Liberia’s first ever Pinkberry store has announced that the entity will officially commence its operation in the country today, Thursday, December 19, 2019. Pinkberry is known for its light and refreshing frozen “made-fresh daily” food with nonfat milk and yogurt.
