National have now admitted they will remove the foreign buyers ban, their true venal values are exposed. After receiving millions in donations from the Real Estate Pimps , National will allow foreign millionaires to speculate in NZs domestic market. Once done, we will never be able to ban foreign speculators again. There are already huge questions over National’s plan with many saying it will never generate the revenue National are claiming. National (who receive millions in donations from Real Estate Pimps) have done exactly what I argued they would do, remove the foreign buyers ban to generate external demand for the housing market which means the Real Estate Pimps win while first time home buyers here in NZ lose out in a market already fundamentally distorted.

Dunedin police deny accusations of brutality after a video emerged of an officer throwing a punch at a man during an arrest. The man was stopped because his car had no warrant of fitness or registration. The man acknowledged spitting at police and being a "smart-arse", but still felt the punch crossed a line. "I’m pretty sure you have to use reasonable force — that seemed like excessive force. Prof Henaghan said police must use a reasonable amount of force while restraining someone and punching was not restraining.

A few weeks ago, the government released the a draft of their next Government Policy Statement (GPS) on land transport for consultation, though it also effectively doubles as Labour’s transport policy for the election. The Ministry of Transport explain the purpose of the GPS as:The GPS is the Government’s strategy for investing in the land transport system. It outlines what the Government wants to achieve in land transport, and how it expects funding from the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF) to be allocated between types of activities (for example, roading, public transport and road safety) across the land transport system. Technically, the decision on what transport projects get funded sits Waka Kotahi, which is why it has a level of independence from the government. Yet they seem to think that because they build a few public transport projects, that’s all they need to do to tick the climate change box.

A New Zealand knitting group was left bemused and befuddled when a local bar cancelled their booking because knitting "wasn't their vibe" – though the bar is adamant it's really (k)nuts about knitters. Katie Andrews, owner of knitting group Knit Nook, was forced to cancel a booking at a local bar. In a Facebook post, the bar said they thought knitting was cool and that it's a great talent to have. Andrews – who has owned her small knitting store for almost a year – has just recently started the social group. After a successful first meet-up at local bar Rosie O'Grady's, the group decided to rotate the locations of the bi-monthly social night.
