The immediate past National Vice Chairman (North West) of the All progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has resigned his membership of the party over alleged bad governance under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration. Lukman, in a letter to selected party leaders titled: “APC and The Future of Nigerian Democracy” claimed that after one-year of “planless leadership” under the President Tinubu-led administration, not much can be achieved during his tenure. With that, both the APC and the governments it controls are getting more and more unpopular. The popular saying in the country now is that President Tinubu is a one-term President. I don’t expect party leaders will agree with my decision.

Researchers with Kaspersky Lab disclosed a number of vulnerabilities in a popular brand of biometrics scanners. The security firm disclosed a total of six CVE vulnerability entries regarding code injection flaws in hardware from ZkTeco. While the research focused on ZkTeco specifically, the Kaspersky crew said that the findings suggest a larger possibility for serious security flaws in biometrics and authentication hardware. “Biometric scanners offer a unique way to resolve the conflict between security and usability,” the researchers wrote. The hackers’ proof-of-concept loaded a QR code with additional commands that would grant the attacker with privileges otherwise locked off from ordinary users.

Joey Chestnut won’t be competing in this year’s Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest, and at least one person associated with the event is sick to their stomach. The 40-year-old has been almost unbeatable on July 4, winning the event 16 times, including every single one since 2016. Three of those 16 wins came against Takeru Kobayashi, who had previously won the contest six times in the early 2000s. Kobayashi, coincidentally enough, had his own problems with MLE and has not competed at the Nathan’s contest since 2009 after he had a dispute over his contract. 3 Joey Chestnut won’t be competing this year.

Scientists said Tuesday that international efforts to protect the ozone layer had been a “huge global success” after revealing that damaging gases in the atmosphere were declining faster than expected. A new study has found that atmospheric levels of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), harmful gases responsible for holes in the ozone layer, peaked in 2021 — five years ahead of projections. The most harmful CFCs were phased out by 2010 in an effort to protect the ozone layer — the shield that protects life on Earth from harmful levels of ultraviolet rays from the Sun. This study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, examined levels of these pollutants in the atmosphere by using data from the Advanced Global Atmospheric Gases Experiment and US National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration. The United Nations Environment Programme in 2023 estimated it could take four decades before the ozone layer would recover to levels before the hole was first detected in the 1980s.

The Pisco Punch rose to fame between 1893 and 1919 at the Bank Exchange, where bartender Duncan Nicol served it with a two-drink limit. He also prefers Italia pisco, which was used in the original Pisco Punch. In 1777, more than a century before the Pisco Punch appeared at the Bank Exchange, Peruvian navigator Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra introduced pisco to California. In return, Toro-Lira’s work transported the Pisco Punch to Peru: The publication of his book led the recipe to spread across Lima. BarSol Pisco founder and master distiller Diego Loret de Mola, who had his first Pisco Punch two decades ago, has seen it flourish in the capital since then.

So, what’s a regional system of government? The government structureIt is imperative to note that Nigeria practised a hybrid of regional government and parliamentary system of government between 1960 and 1963. Pulse NigeriaShould Nigeria revert to a regional system of government as practised in the early 1960s, the current arrangement would collapse to accommodate a prime minister and premiers who would act as head of government at the regional level. Currently, Nigeria is partitioned into six main regions namely, South West, South East, South South, North West, North East, and North Central. With this in place, a major problem has been solved for a regional system of government if it ever happens.
