‘33% of Liberian Children Are Malnourished’


Carey; launches food fortification alliance todayThe Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) on Friday, October 27, launched the National Food Fortification Alliance of Liberia (NFFAL). The national food program is intended to develop a program that would allow for food fortification standards, making the importation and production of fortified food products for children with malnourished conditions. Minister Carey, who spoke yesterday at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, said statistics conducted by the ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and UNICEF shows that 33 percent of Liberian children are malnourished, and as such the food fortification program will be in line with the national consumption patterns, aimed at ensuring positive impact for Liberian children. To recognize the significant contribution made by organizations and individuals for the establishment and implementation of food fortification program in Liberia. “And to also enhance a broader lasting collaboration among stakeholders and implementation of the food fortification program of Liberia, and to raise awareness on the national food fortification program among the general public,” he said.
