WashingtonIn 1669, Louis XIV founded the Opéra de Paris, still the premier opera and ballet company of France. Seen in Paris last fall and winter, the exhibition opened in Washington on March 1 and closed soon after. Now through Oct. 12, “Degas at the Opéra” can be savored by the masked and socially distanced who book free timed passes, available on the National Gallery website. Dancers in tarlatan tutus and colored sashes are well represented, but so are musicians, some of them Degas’s friends. Fiocre, an admired dancer, sits, in costume, pointe shoes off, between two costumed figures.
