‘Everything is gone’: Occupants advised to leave flooded homes

Elaine Byrne, who lives in Aughrim, told the Press Association that her whole house became flooded in the space of 20 to 30 minutes. She has now been advised not to stay in the house which she has lived in for 18 years. “It is heartbreaking to see all the things I built up over the years – and it’s gone,” she said. Ms Byrne said they had never experienced water flooding into the house before, with only one occasion where water had come close to the front door. Met Éireann issued a yellow rain warning for the whole day in counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow and Dublin.
