The Wall Street Journal reported March 8 that several companies were in talks to establish a fund to support workers who get sick; Uber, Lyft, Postmates, and other platforms began unveiling their own emergency plans (or place-holders), too. Uber also commented in a general statement Sunday, “We are always working to help keep everyone who uses Uber safe. The second potential exposure happened the following night, when he picked up a young man for an Uber ride between two unremarkable addresses in adjacent San Francisco neighborhoods. It was only a five-minute ride, the driver said, which would usually amount to a loss after expenses. On Twitter, numerous drivers made similar complaints, speculating that only few drivers would qualify for support in the end.
