Once I headed east and stopped at the Calico Early Man Site (not to be confused with the Knott’s Berry Farm-infused Calico Ghost Town). Calico Early Man Site in the Mojave Desert was a popular destination for volunteers who wanted to participate in the hunt for ancient artifacts. Leakey took a break from his pioneering work at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania to visit the Calico Early Man Site in the 1960s. Leakey at the Calico Early Man Site.
