The suppressors first emerged in a list of equipment reported missing, released through the Official Information Act. At that point the NZSAS alerted NZDF’s Joint Military Police Unit (JMPU) that six suppressors were missing. Photo / NZDFIt led to a military police file being created and the missing suppressors being reported to civilian police. The missing suppressors are SureFire SOCOM556-RC military suppressors, designed for use with 5.56 NATO or .223 calibre rifles. The cylindrical ends of their rifles show the type of suppressors missing from the elite regiment's armoury.
