‘It’s been a long time coming’: In an Irish bar in LA as Jessie Buckley wins her Oscar

The Irish patrons at LA’s Donegal-owned The Auld Fella pub on Wilshire Boulevard – from lawyers to musicians – erupted in cheers and whoops Sunday evening as Jessie Buckley accepted the win for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 98th Academy Awards. The 36-year-old new mother, taking to the stage in an elegant off-the-shoulder pink and red gown, became the first Irish woman to bring home an Oscar in the category. She hugged co-star and fellow Irish actor Paul Mescal as she tearfully stood up and approached the stage, next embracing last year’s winner, Mikey Madison, as the Anora star presented Buckley with her statue.
