‘It was out of love for him I did it’

Weeks of fund-raising culminated in the 75-year-old's headshave in Churchill at the weekend, and by the time of the big day, just over €21,000 had been gathered. Donations came in from near and far, online and offline, before her daughter-in-law, Brenda, carried out the headshave at Ina's garden on Sunday. The weather, thankfully, couldn't have been better, and all in all it was the perfect tribute to her brother, Patrick Joseph 'Stocky' O'Mahony, who lost his life to Motor Neurone Disease six years ago. "We had a lot of donations online, but a lot of people came to my house with donations as well, and even if I wasn't there, they put it through the letter box. Not least, she kept a few words for 'Stocky', who inspired the effort: "It was out of love for him that I did it," she said.
