The World Wrestling Entertainment announced the death of “Mean Gene” Okerlund on its Twitter feed Wednesday morning. Gene Okerlund, perhaps the most recognizable interviewer in professional wrestling, has died. It was Jesse “The Body” Ventura who gave Okerlund the nickname “Mean Gene,” according to the WWE, while both were at the American Wrestling Association. “Countless Hulkster interviews included the indelible phrase, ‘Well you know something, Mean Gene!,” the WWE said in its release. In 1993, Okerlund joined WCW before returning to the WWE in 2001.
