‘This favour from Ford to McVety is still on the books’: NDP says reference to Christian college should be removed from legislation

The NDP plans to propose a bill next week that would remove mention of Canada Christian College from previous legislation that could have helped it become a university. Last week, the province’s arms-length post-secondary quality assessment board rejected the college’s application, deciding it was not ready for the status upgrade or to grant arts and science degrees. The college is run by controversial social conservative Charles McVety, who is friendly with Premier Doug Ford. A bill introduced last October would have granted the college university status if it had gained approval from the Post-secondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB). In an interview last week, McVety told the Star that his school “met every benchmark” and that he planned to launch a lawsuit against PEQAB.
