Moments after beating Ballygunner last Sunday, Cathal King, one of four Na Piarsaigh hurlers to have started each of their four Munster club final wins, gave his victory speech in Irish. Podge Kennedy, the goalkeeper, stood at the fringes of the euphoria and soaked it in. Kennedy lost his father, Liam, in April after a short illness. A native of Cloughjordan and the Kilruane MacDonaghs club, Liam moved to Limerick and was instrumental in the setting up of summer camps that would yield dividends for the club. Liam had served as Na Piarsaigh senior manager in the early 2000s and more recently he was the club treasurer.
