“Fake Soldier” Arrested in Monrovia

The hierarchy of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) said it is investigating a man identified as Franklin Matthew, who was recently arrested and charged for reportedly impersonating an AFL personnel. According to a release the Ministry of National Defense issued in Monrovia, the “fake soldier” was arrested through the collaborative effort of the ministry’s Department of Defense Intelligence (DDI) and the LNP on Wednesday, November 22 at the Zone 8 Police Station in Paynesville, outside Monrovia. Matthew, the release said, was arrested when he was at the Zone 8 Police Station introducing himself as personnel of the AFL in search of his alleged missing mobile phone. During the preliminary investigation, Matthew revealed that the AFL ID in his possession was illegally produced at the “World Trade Center” on Gurley Street in Monrovia. “Further investigation into the crux of this grave security issue continues,” the release said.
