KUCHING: A ten-year-old boy from Kuching is the latest death due to rabies in Sarawak. The Sarawak Health Department said the victim had been bitten by a stray dog on Feb 11, 2026, and only washed his wound at home without getting further medical treatment. "On March 11, 2026, the victim showed signs of a lack of appetite, vomitting, neck spasms and hydrophobia. "Test results confirmed the victim was infected by rabies on March 14, 2026 and he died on March 18, 2026. Investigations revealed that the main risk factor for the latest victim was seeking treatment late after being bitten by an animal," the department said in a statement today.
