Eleven suspects have been arrested for trying to sneak crude weapons into Uhuru Park ahead of Cord's Madaraka Day fete. They were found with weapons including pangas and rungus while being frisked on their way in, said Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam. On Tuesday, the High Court allowed the Opposition to hold the fete at the park but warned against the violation of people's rights and incitement to violence. Security remains heightened at the location in the wake of violent protests by the Opposition for the IEBC to be disbanded. Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe said the decision to ban the two rallies was arrived at by the National Security Advisory Committee over security threats.
