But when it’s elevated to a proper roast, with crispy potatoes, Yorkshire puds, jugs of gravy and all the trimmings, it becomes even more special. Home-cooked might be top-tier for many of us, but when you don’t fancy the faff (or the pile of dishes), it’s time to look elsewhere. Here’s a list of pubs and a few pub-adjacent spots that I love, along with some excellent recommendations, all of which truly get what a roast should be.
