Two longtime public officials in Moorpark are vying to represent the Simi Valley-Moorpark area on the Board of Supervisors, which oversees the 10,000-employee county government. Moorpark Mayor Janice Parvin and Bernardo Perez, a trustee for the Ventura County Community College District, are on the November ballot after surviving the crowded primary in June. Parvin, 68, has served as the elected mayor of Moorpark for 14 years and on the city council for six. Perez says his overarching priority is protecting and improving quality of life, which encompasses health and safety, ensuring that the east county receives an equitable share of county services and protecting the quality of air and water. Kathleen Wilson covers the Ventura County government, including the county health system, politics and social services.
