28 People Killed in Recent Violence in Addis Ababa - PoliceBy Staff ReporterSeptember 24, 2018 - A total of 28 people were killed in Addis Ababa following the recent deadly clashes between supporters of Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) and the city’s residents over dispute on flag posts along the streets of the capital. In a press conference on Monday, Commissioner of the Addis Ababa Police Major General Degfie Bedi said 21 of the victims were beaten, stoned and stabbed to death, while other seven people were shot dead by security officers. The commissioner said of the seven people killed by the security officers, five of them were shot dead as they were trying to snatch firearms from police officers. One person was killed while trying to loot a court, and another one was gunned down erroneously by the police. According to the commissioner, hundreds of people were beaten and wounded during the six-day violence, and some other perpetrators were involved in attempted bank robbery.
