The High Court has held three government officials in contempt of court, after they failed to pay Tk20 lakh in compensation to the family of four-year-old Jihad, who died after falling into an abandoned well in Dhaka’s Shahjahanpur area in December 2014. The High Court bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the contempt rule on Thursday. The rule was issued against the director general of Bangladesh Railway, and the director general and a director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department. The officials were asked to respond to the ruling within two weeks. He said: “A legal notice was sent to the officials on January 22.
