ISABELA CITY, Basilan: Two rival factions of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) engaged in a two-day firefight that began on Friday, killing a rebel commander and two of his followers at Barangay Babag, Bubuan Island town, a belated military report received in this capital city said. Maluso Mayor Brenda Jumaid said her office periodically provided food and medical assistance to the affected Babuan residents. “We need to feed and help them because they have lost many things that were allegedly ransacked by the attackers,” Junaid added. Malucon was informed that two of the rebel fatalities were identified as Stalin Mukahil, allegedly Bubuan’s MNLF field leader, and his cousin, Basit Kangal. Another group of soldiers was reportedly fielded to Babuan to help maintain peace and order on the island.
