$400,000 fine for 'saving' scheme which deceived aspiring first home buyers


Home Funding Group told aspiring home buyers it could help them save for a deposit. An Auckland company which falsely claimed to offer a savings scheme to help low-income families buy a home has been fined $400,000 after a Commerce Commission investigation. Home Funding Group (HFC) was convicted in January on two charges under the Fair Trading Act at Auckland District Court. However, customers’ payments were not paid into or treated as being in any form of savings scheme,” said commission chair Anna Rawlings.
