Here are five things to know about the next generation of telecommunications:What is 5G? It’s not just about speed of downloads and uploads; 5G brings much lower “latency” than 4G. But these will need 5G networks to cover large areas, which is still some way off. But mobile communications industry body GSMA, which represents 800 operators worldwide, estimates 5G will account for just 15 percent of total global mobile connections in 2025. Broad adoption by consumers depends on 5G networks spreading far enough, and for handhelds’ chips and other architecture to be capable of handling the added workload.
