It was the largest number of children killed in a mass shooting since 20 died at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. The two survived the mass shooting. Crosses bearing the names of the mass shooting victims stand near the First Baptist Church on Thursday. Pence told the crowd that the slayings were the worst mass shooting at a church in American history and called the gunman "deranged."
