In response to the attack, a team of river police fired rubber bullets to bring the situation under control, and arrested 17 fishermen. In Manikganj, a patrol team arrested 15 fishermen during a drive, and sentenced each of them to a year in jail, confirmed UNO AFM Firoz Mahmud. The detainees, Salam, Mamun, Torab, Ashraf, Chan, Hajaj, Taiyab, Akkas, Bakul, Pannu, Badol, Saiful, Sanoar, Mohib, and Salam were detained while illegally netting ilish. In Madaripur, a mobile court arrested 13 fishermen, and eight buyers on Monday when they were caught illegally netting ilish on the Meghna River, near Shibchar area. In Barisal, a mobile court arrested 20 fishermen for netting ilish violating the ongoing ban in several areas of the district on Monday, confirmed the district authority.
