A Church and Multiple Mosques Set Ablaze in Motta Town of Amhara RegionBy Staff ReporterDecember 21, 2019 (Ezega.com) -- Religious dispute broke out in Motta town of east Gojam in Amhara state of northern Ethiopia after a church and four mosques were set on fire on Friday, December 20, 2019. The dispute began as unidentified people set the Saint George Orthodox Church on fire which was put under-control later. In revenge, Ethiopian Orthodox Church followers set ablaze four mosques, including Jemiule Hosque Herait and Ayer Marefia mosques. “Four mosques were burned and several shops robbed,” the President of the Amhara Region Islamic Affairs Council, Seid Ahmedin, was quoted as saying by Amhara Mass Media. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, religious leaders of the Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Church and the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council have all swiftly condemned the burning of religious institutions in Motta town of Amhara state.
