While crude oil and gas markets are trying to find their own footing, other crises are already on the horizon. The combined effect is the removal of yet another critical source of Eastern Mediterranean gas supply. When assessing Egypt, it becomes clear that the country currently occupies a paradoxical position in global energy markets. The first major shock has come via Qatar, as Doha's LNG suspension takes out a cornerstone of global gas liquidity. Instability in Egypt is not what global markets, energy markets, and the MENA region can handle at present.
