Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is threatening to go to war with the NFL, saying he will sue the NFL and certain team owners unless the league's compensation committee agrees to delay, or altogether turf, a contract extension for Commissioner Roger Goodell. Presumably, Jones would sue these six owners, with a view to restraining any extension, while also naming the NFL as a defendant. Jones and Goodell have been at odds over Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension, with Jones characterizing it as an "overreaction." Jones could also invoke an antitrust argument, alleging that Goodell and the owners, working in concert, had inflicted harm on the Cowboys. A court would likely conclude that the compensation committee has operated in a reasonable manner and in keeping with the mandate received from the other owners.
