There are more museums devoted to the art of Pablo Picasso than to the work of any other artist. “Picasso Poet” presents the little-known poetry he wrote primarily in the 1930s and its relationship to his contemporary painting and drawing. In order to understand how Picasso began his career, we need to visit the Museu Picasso in Barcelona, because it was in this coastal city that Picasso first engaged with modern art. The collection began with a gift from Picasso’s close friend and secretary Jaume Sabartés, which inspired Picasso and his family to make large donations of his early work. Many of these works, and the remarkable Renaissance palaces that house the museum, are beautifully displayed in a video simply titled “Museu Picasso, Barcelona,” available on YouTube.
