It is promising to see that a Tk 1,268 crore project, aimed at protecting livelihoods in the haor and Barind regions from climate shocks, has been approved by the government. These are no longer potential climate risks; they are real, recurring crises that push thousands of families deeper into poverty and uncertainty -- and any initiative that recognizes and seeks to address it warrants cautious optimism. What makes this project important is that it focuses on resilience rather than reaction. Too often, responses to climate impacts arrive only after the damage has been done. As climate risks intensify, Bangladesh will need many more such initiatives: Coordinated and well-monitored efforts that are integrated into our broader development planning.
